Who We Are?
The Cavy Owners & Breeders Society of Queensland was established in the mid-1970s by a group of dedicated fanciers. The Society held its first show on August 29, 1976. The club will celebrate its 48th birthday in 2024, making it one of the oldest guinea pig clubs in Australia.
A primary focus of COBS is to promote the exhibition of quality pedigree cavies. Just like dogs and cats, showing guinea pigs is a rewarding hobby for people of all ages. The Society has been active in engaging interstate judges to judge the Standard Breed sections at our shows.
We also encourage responsible cavy ownership and breeding of Standard Breed cavies. Cavies are attractive and fun pets that are suited to all ages. Many people are not aware of the wide variety of breeds that are recognised in this humble little rodent. We are particularly keen to encourage and mentor younger exhibitors.
Our shows don't leave out the non-pedigree fanciers. We have non-pedigree (also known as condition/pet) classes. Some of these classes vary from month to month to keep everything light-hearted and fun for the exhibitors.
